Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3
Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 is the on-premise enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions from Microsoft. In July 2017, Microsoft launched the latest version of its cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions namely Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.
The key difference between Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 and Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations are is Dynamics 365 is on-cloud whereas AX 2012 R3 is on-premise.
The on-premise solution typically required higher investment on hardware infrastructure, among others higher specs physical servers to host the application and database servers or virtual machines which in turn hosting the applications and database servers.
On the other hand, the on-cloud solution resolves part of the hardware requirement required in the solutions and this application and database server is hosted and managed by Microsoft in their cloud platform. However, a fast and stable ethernet is required in order for the application to work smoothly.
